The TIP-15 is a personal identification panel designed to prevent friendly fire on the battlefield.
It's a 2-foot by 2-foot sheet, with one side made of high-visibility orange nylon and the other side made of tan infrared reflective material. The edges are reinforced with nylon webbing, and grommets are attached at the four corners for securing with ropes or other means. When folded, it's small enough to fit in the chest pocket of a BUD jacket.

While the size is one-quarter of a standard TIP panel, there is no difference in visual and infrared detection characteristics. The identifiable distance is approximately 1,500 meters, though this varies depending on the equipment used for identification, atmospheric conditions, and the orientation of the panel. The IR reflective surface uses a special material that appears as a cold spot to thermal sites (Far-IR), allowing for identification by AH-64 helicopters, M1A1 tanks, and the US Air Force's LANTIRN system, among others.
